Yankees game 47 preview (5/27/16)

Masahiro Tanaka (2-0, 3.24 ERA) and Chris Archer (3-5, 5.16 ERA) open the three game weekend set at the Trop. This will be Tanaka’s second career start in Tampa Bay. In his first appearance, he threw seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits and K-ing eight. He’s coming off a one run, seven inning outing and a win against Oakland. He faced the Rays in April, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs in a no decision.

Archer has struggled this season, and his last start against the Tigers was no different. He lasted just three innings, giving up six runs on eight hits for the worst start in his career. He is 5-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 10 career starts against the Yanks. His last start against them was in September, allowing two runs in six innings and taking the loss.

Tidbits:

The Yanks took two of three from the Rays in April.

Since 2010, Tampa Bay is the only AL team with a winning record against the Bombers (60-54.)

The Rays are without defensive artist Kevin Kiermaier. The ball hawking center fielder hit the DL for 8-10 weeks with a broken hand.
