New York Yankees 7 — Chicago White Sox 1

Masahiro Tanaka makes his first start since losing his winning streak spanning nearly two years.

The Yankees got to White Sox starter Andre Rienzo early with one out in the second inning. Brett Gardner cashed in with the bases loaded. He would hit a two-run single to right field. Derek Jeter would follow with a single of his own to make it a three-run game. The hero of yesterday, Jacoby Ellsbury,  would hit a fly ball that center fielder Adam Eaton would make a diving catch on but that would go as a sacrifice fly when Gardner scored on play.

In the fourth inning, the Yankees captain hit his first triple since August 2011 after Eaton made a five that failed on a sinking line drive. He would score soon after on a wild pitch by Rienzo for the fifth run of the game. Derek Jeter plates the sixth run of the game on a single through the middle in the sixth inning, by a lunging Alexei Ramirez. This was his fourth hit of the day as he had a fantastic game behind Tanaka.

The lone run that Tanaka gave up came in the sixth inning off the bat of Conor Gillaspie who singled to left field. Over 6.2 innings, Masahiro Tanaka gave up just one run on five hits while striking out six on a career-high 118 pitches.

In the eighth inning, Brian Roberts hit his second home run of the season with the assistance of some wind carrying the ball out to right field. The bullpen would close out the game to come away with a series split in the South side of Chicago.
