ST. Yankees game 53 preview (6/2/16)

The Yankees travel to Detroit for one game to make up the April 10 rainout. Michael Pineda (2-6, 6.92 ERA) and Matt Boyd (0-0, 2.79 ERA) go for their respective clubs. Pineda’s 6.92 ERA is the highest of any qualified starter, so the Yankees plan is to keep him in the Majors, naturally.

I mean, obviously. The guys ERA is nearly 7.00 so of course making a change is “silly.” He lasted just 3.2 innings in his last outing against the Rays, giving up six runs (all earned) on nine hits.

Boyd got the spot start against the A’s in place of the injured Jordan Zimmermann, and earned himself another one. He gave up three runs on six hits through five innings. This is his first time facing the Yanks.

Tidbits:

Pineda has allowed 20 earned runs on 30 hits in his last four starts.

Boyd is 1-6 with a 6.85 ERA in 15 games in the Bigs.

Pineda leads the team with 59 strikeouts.
