Boston Red Sox 1 — New York Yankees 4

CC leads the Yankees past the five-game losing streak in tonight’s 4-1 win over the Boston Red Sox.

The ace of a rotation is turned to when there is a losing streak. CC Sabathia, the ace of the Yankees staff, stepped to the challenge and dominated. Sabathia got the first two batters of the game to strikeout looking and would have four strikeouts through two innings. In the fifth inning, CC followed the strikeout to end the fourth with three more as he struck out the side. A pair of doubles in the seventh inning would end Sabathia’s shutout but he got his 10th strikeout and would finish off that inning.

In 7.1 innings, CC Sabathia allowed one run on six hits and tying a season-high 10 strikeouts. And for those concerned with the velocity Sabathia has been showing, he reached between 92-94 mph frequently tonight.

The return of Mark Teixeira began in the second inning. A seven-pitch at-bat resulted in a walk to leadoff the inning. Vernon Wells would double over the head of centerfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to put runners on second and third with no outs. Jayson Nix would cash-in and bring home the first run of the game with a single to left. Ichiro Suzuki would also come through with a chip shot to left field to bring one more and give the Yankees an early two-run lead.

The free base-runner continues to benefit the Yankees. David Adams would start the fifth inning by getting hit by a pitch. A fielder’s choice at second base would bring manager Joe Girardi out for a…discussion.

The discussion with the second base umpire would end with the first ejection of the season for the Yankees manager.

The return of Kevin Youkilis paid off in the fifth inning with a sharp single down the left field line. The lead runner, Ichiro, would score despite Chris Stewart ending the inning, caught trying to go to third base on the single. Three singles in the seventh, the last by Brett Gardner, would bring in the fourth run of the game and got back the run that Sabathia allowed.

With a three-run lead, the Yankees turned to Mariano Rivera to bounce back from his first blown save on Tuesday. After the first out, Rivera would give up a pair of singles and put the tying-run at the plate. A strikeout of Mike Napoli and a ground out back to Rivera would end the game and notch his 19th save of the season.

Kevin Youkilis got one hit in four at-bats in his return to the Yankees with a run batted in and two strikeouts.

Mark Teixeira went hitless in three at-bats but walked and scored the first run of tonight’s game.
