NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 08: Ronald Torreyes #17 of the New York Yankees congratulates teammate Chris Parmelee #26 after he hit a solo home run in the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Angels at Yankee Stadium on June 8, 2016 in the Bronx borough of New York City. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Yankees Game 59: Parmelee goes deep twice in blowout victory

Los Angeles Angels 6 – New York Yankees 12

The Yankees came out with full force on offense in support of Nathan Eovaldi.

Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees tonight and it was evident from the first inning that he was not sharp. After getting the first batter out, Kole Calhoun hit a double and scored on a single by Mike Trout. Albert Pujols and Jefry Marte added a pair of singles but a strikeout of Johnny Giavotella stranded the bases loaded.

Against Jered Weaver, the Yankees came out with force too.

Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a single and Brett Gardner followed with a double of his own, tying the game at one. After the first out of the inning, Alex Rodriguez brought home Gardner with a single to take the 2-1 lead.

In the second inning, Rafael Ortega led off with a double off of Eovaldi. Then with one out, Gregorio Petit continues to torment the Yankees when he hit a two-run home run to give the Angels back the lead. The Angels added another run in the third when Jefry Marte hit a solo home run to make it a two-run lead.

Jacoby Ellsbury hit a solo home run in the third inning to make it a 4-3 game and he gave the Yankees the opportunity to tie it in the fourth inning too. With one on and two outs, Jacoby Ellsbury reached base with catcher’s interference to extend the inning. Brett Gardner took advantage of this with a single to score Parmelee, tying the game 4-4.

Eovaldi continued having a difficult time in tonight’s game. Despite a perfect fourth inning, doubles by Mike Trout and Albert Pujols put the Angels back ahead again, 5-4. In 5 1/3 innings, Nathan Eovaldi allowed five runs on 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts. He surrendered two home runs and clearly did not come into tonight’s game with the effective pitches that made him reliable for most of the season.

In the sixth inning, first baseman Chris Parmelee went deep against Weaver, tying the game 5-5. After retiring one batter, Weaver walked one, ending his night on the mound.

Lefty Jose Alvarez gave up a single to Brett Gardner before Carlos Beltran came up clutch, hitting a double to left field, scoring Brett Gardner and putting the Yankees back ahead. Righty Cam Bedrosian came in next and got the second out of the inning but Brian McCann provided insurance with a two-run single to left field, giving the Yankees a three-run lead.

Lefty Greg Mahle came on to face Didi Gregorius in the seventh inning and the Yankees shortstop hit a single. Chris Parmelee added his second home run of the season with a two-run home run. After a throwing error by Yunel Escobar allowed Ronald Torreyes to reach, Mahle got the next two outs before the Yankees hottest hitter struck again. Carlos Beltran added more runs with a two-run home run.

With a 12-5 lead, Kirby Yates added a scoreless eighth inning. Nick Goody came on for the ninth and gave up a solo home run to Mike Trout but it was a meaningless run in a solid 12-6 win for the offense.
