Yankees Game 60: Beltran, A-Rod lead the offense in sweep of Angels

Los Angeles Angels 3 – New York Yankees 6

With three wins in the series, the Yankees secured the win with the sweep in sight.

The game started scoreless until the fourth inning. Mike Trout led off the second with a double against Ivan Nova. After a ground out advanced Trout, the Angels center fielder stole third and scored on a single by C.J. Cron with the infield drawn in.

In the fifth inning, Didi Gregorius led off with a walk against Jhoulys Chacin. After a ground out advanced him to second, Chris Parmelee brought him home with a single to tie the game. After a single by Jacoby Ellsbury and a walk by Brett Gardner loaded the bases, the hottest batter in pinstripes came through again. Carlos Beltran hit a fly ball to right field that bounced into the crowd for a two-run, ground-rule double to break the 1-1 tie. Alex Rodriguez added a run on a sacrifice fly and Brian McCann went the other way with a run-scoring double in a five-run fifth inning to take the lead.

After a scoreless sixth inning by Nova, he gave up a lead off double to Johnny Giavotella in the seventh inning. With one out, the Angels pulled within two on a pinch-hit, two-run home run by Jefry Marte.

In 6 1/3 innings, Ivan Nova allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts. With Dellin Betances on the mound, Yunel Escobar hit a ground ball to Didi Gregorius. On the throw from the Yankees shortstop, first baseman Chris Parmelee stretched to make the final out but came at a price. The Yankees first baseman appeared to hurt his right hamstring and needed assistance getting off the field.

After a scoreless inning by Mike Morin, Cory Rasmus came in for the Angels in the seventh inning.

Brett Gardner led off with a walk and advanced to second on a balk and to third on a wild pitch. After a strikeout by Carlos Beltran, Alex Rodriguez came through with a double to make it a three-run lead.

Andrew Miller pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Aroldis Chapman finished off the game, completing the sweep of the Los Angeles Angels and returning the Yankees to a .500 record.
