Yankees game 63 preview (6/15/15)

Masahiro Tanaka (4-1, 2.48 ERA) and the Yanks travel to the Sunshine State to take on Tom Koehler (4-4,4.00 ERA) and the Marlins. Tanaka has been promising since coming off the DL, beating the Mariners and Nationals striking out 15 with zero walks. He gave up one run on five hits through seven innings in his last outing against Washington.

Koehler is 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA in six home games this season. However, in his last start at Toronto he gave up six runs on eight hits through 6 2/3 innings. This will be his first time facing the Bombers.

The Yankees had to face Mike Trout and Bryce Harper in back to back series. The next challenge: Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton is batting .520 (13-25) with five home runs and 12 RBIs in his current seven game hitting streak. He has 10 home runs and 17 RBIs over his last 15 games. He leads the Majors with 23 home runs and 59 RBIs.

You’re seeing some of the young superstars; guys that I think Major League Baseball is looking at to be faces of the game. You always want that youth that comes in that replaces the old guys that leave. We’re getting a chance to see three great young players back-to-back-to-back. -Joe Girardi

Tidbits:

ARod is five hits from 3,000 but probably wont get a chance to reach the milestone in the National League park.

Tanaka is hitting a robust .111 with five K’s.

Stanton is batting .261.
