Countrymen Michael Pineda (7-3, 3.74 ERA) and Jose Urena (1-2, 4.44 ERA) kick things off as the series shifts to the Bronx. Pineda made his last start on 10 days rest after being skipped in the rotation because of “innings concerns.” He gave up six runs (five earned) in 4 1/3 innings against the Orioles.
This will be Urena’s fifth Major League start. He has given up five runs through 18 2/3 innings in his last three starts. He’s coming off his first career win, holding the Rockies to one run on six hits through 6 2/3 innings.
The last time Miami played in the Bronx was June 2006. The only team that has gone longer without coming to town is the Cardinals, who have not played in the Bronx since 2003.
Tidbits:
Ichiro Suzuki makes his return to Yankee Stadium since leaving in the off season. He is hitting .304 with 13 home runs in 200 games in the Bronx.
The bull pen is hoping Pineda can help them out since they had to labor last night due to Eovaldi’s pathetic outing.
ARod is five hits from 3,000
