Yankees game 68 preview (6/20/15)

Nathan Eovaldi (5-2, 5.12 ERA) and Alfredo Simon (7-3, 2.58 ERA) will get the ball on Old Timers Day. Eovaldi’s last out against his former team was pathetic. He gave up eight runs on nine hits in just 2/3 of an inning. Why the Yankees are starting him just four days after that disaster is beyond me.

Simon blanked the Indians over five innings and three hits in his last outing. He’s given up just five homers so far this season. He has given up just one earned run in his past two starts and his 2.58 ERA is the lowest of his career.

Today is the 69th annual Old Timers Day at the Stadium. Around 50 former Yankees, including Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson and Joe Torre, will be honored before taking the field for the Old Timers Game. The Yankees will also unveil a plaque to honor former second baseman Willie Randolph, who played in five All Star Games and won two World Series during his 13 year career with the Bombers.

Tidbits:

Four of Simon’s five homers have been from lefties.

In two career starts against Detroit, Eovaldi has a 1.38 ERA through 13 innings.

This will be Eovaldi’s first time pitching on just three days rest, should go well.
