It’s up to Nathan Eovaldi (7-2, 4.81 ERA) to avoid the sweep against Matt Shoemaker (4-6, 5.03 ERA) and the Angels. Eovaldi has won two straight after holding the Astros to two runs on five hits through six innings. Adam Warren was supposed to get this start, but he’s been sent to the pen. He beat the Angels in his only start against them back on June 5, allowing one run through 5 1/3.
Shoemaker held the Mariners to two runs on seven hits through six, but his offense didn’t reward his efforts and he took the loss.
Tidbits:
The Angels’ 2-3-4 hitters are batting .500 (11-22) against Eovaldi. Kole Calhoun is 3-5, Mike Trout is 4-8 and Albert Pujols is 4-9.
I checked with my sources and Mike Trout is indeed really good.
Garrett Jones is the only Yankee bat to face Shoemaker. He is 0-3.
