Yankees game 8: Yankees come close but fall short

New York Yankees 3 – Baltimore Orioles 4

Looking to extend the two-game winning streak, the Yankees turned to CC Sabathia.

In the first inning, CC Sabathia would get the first two outs before Adam Jones hit a big fly to left field, his third home run of the season, to put the Orioles ahead by one. In the third inning, Adam Jones would come through again, hitting a sacrifice fly after a walk and a single.

In the fourth inning, Sabathia would allow a leadoff single but was working his way back, striking out the next two. Unfortunately, Caleb Joseph hit a single to right field, extending the Orioles lead to three.

Through the first five innings, the Yankees could not figure out Orioles’ starter Miguel Gonzalez. The Yankees would get two hits through the first five innings but they both came with two outs in the first and second inning, stranding the runner in scoring position.

In the sixth inning, Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a single. After a wild pitch and two outs, Mark Teixeira would come through with a double to right field, scoring the first run for the Yankees.

In the seventh inning, Caleb Joseph would lead off with a triple off of Sabathia. One out later, Everth Cabrera would bring home Joseph on a sacrifice fly.

In seven innings, CC Sabathia allowed four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out seven. Miguel Gonzalez bested Sabathia, allowing just one run on four hits while walking one and striking out 10 through the same seven innings.

In the eighth inning, Didi Gregorius started with a single. One out later, Chase Headley hit a single and Gregorius would come around to score on a ground out by Carlos Beltran. Mark Teixeira would hit a deep fly ball to left field that hit off the glove of left fielder De Aza to bring the Yankees within one.

The Orioles closer Zach Britton would get a four-out save to wrap up the Orioles win tonight to split the first two games of the three-game series.

The defensive woes continue for the Yankees who committed two errors in tonight’s game.
