New York Yankees 10 — Boston Red Sox 8
Mark Teixeira drove in 4 runs in a offensive battle in which the Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox by a score of 10-8.
Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees to open this four-game series and could not maintain a lead. The Yankees gave him a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning which was given back in the 1st inning by Kuroda. Then he received another lead, 6-5, before giving that run back in the 2nd too. After 5.2 innings, Kuroda gave up 7 runs, 6 earned, on 10 hits. Boone Logan managed to get the win in just 0.2 of an inning in which he gave up a run. David Robertson assisted Cody Eppley with finishing the 7th inning and Rafael Soriano helped Robertson with the 8th inning. Soriano would strikeout the last batter for a 4-out save, his 20th of the season.
The Yankees attacked Josh Beckett very early. The entire lineup got one at-bat and 6 of the 9 reached base by hit or walk, including a bases-loaded walk to Robinson Cano. The other run-scoring hit was Mark Teixeira’s two-run single. Two of the outs in the inning brought in two runs. Before the Red Sox could even step into the batter’s box, they had to make up a 5-run deficit. The offense would not stop as the Red Sox would tie it up after the 1st and then the Yankees would score again on an Alex Rodriguez ground out that would receive another response to tie it at 6-6 after just 2 innings. With the Yankees trailing in the 7th, Mark Teixeira faced a familiar foe, Vicente Padilla. Teixeira and Padilla have had a notable past as Padilla has hit Teixeira with pitches on three different occasions. Mark Teixeira would finally get to hit Padilla back as a two-run triple gave the Yankees the lead and Teixeira a measure of revenge. A run-scoring double by Raul Ibanez and run-scoring single by Eric Chavez put the Yankees ahead with a four-run 7th inning. The Yankees offense was on point and early offense quickly showed that the Yankees would be able to manufacture runs and not be entirely dependent on home runs, despite being in such a hitter-friendly ballpark.
