The break is over and Masahiro Tanaka (5-3, 3.63 ERA) kicks off the second half against Mike Montgomery (4-3, 2.29 ERA) and the Mariners. Tanaka went four starts without a win before beating the A’s, giving up two runs on two hits through 7 2/3 innings. He faced Seattle back in June giving up one run on three hits in the seven inning win.
26 year old rookie Montgomery will look to build off a great first half. He threw back to back shutouts against the Royals and Padres before the Angels snapped his three game win streak. He gave up five runs on eight hits through five in his first loss since June 18. He took a no decision against the Yanks back in June allowing one run on four hits through six innings.
