Yankees Game 93: Starlin shines bright, Nasty Nate great

Baltimore Orioles 1 – New York Yankees 7

After a strong victory yesterday, the Yankees continued their series with Baltimore.

In the second inning, Didi Gregorius made the inning against Vance Worley stay alive with a 10-pitch, two-out walk. Getting ahead in the count, Starlin Castro made the most of the two-out rally with a two-run home run into the second deck of left field to put the Yankees ahead by two.

After a single with one out in the second inning, Nathan Eovaldi retired the next 11 in a row to get into the sixth inning.

Worley kept the offense quiet until the fifth inning. After a walk of Rob Refsnyder, the Yankees first baseman stole second and came around to score on a single by Jacoby Ellsbury to extend the lead to three.

After a one-out walk in the sixth inning by Eovaldi, the Orioles scored a run on a double by Joey Rickard. The second walk by Eovaldi ended his day but Anthony Swarzak retired the next two batters to maintain the 3-1 lead.

In 5 1/3 innings, Nathan Eovaldi allowed one run on four hits with two walks and one strikeout. Needing 82 pitches, Eovaldi was more efficient as he kept the defense involved in the game.

The Yankees added two more runs in the sixth inning when Starlin Castro plated two runs with a double, for four runs batted in on the night. In the eighth inning, Chase Headley added a two-run home run but the bullpen not referred to as The Big 3 shut down tonight’s game.

In 2 2/3 innings of relief, Anthony Swarzak was perfect, allowing no hits and no walks with two strikeouts. Nick Goody came in and struck out the side in the ninth inning to wrap up tonight’s win, the Yankees third in a row.
