The Yankees start their 10 game road trip in Minnesota and game one features a familiar face. Michael Pineda (9-6, 3.77 ERA) will square off against Mr. Phil Hughes (8-6, 4.15 ERA) to kick things off. Pineda has been an enigma ever since his 16 strikeout game. He will pitch a quality game then follow it up with a clunker then throw another gem. His last start against the Mariners was somewhere in the middle. He threw six innings of four run six hit ball taking a loss. He owns a 1.64 ERA in two career starts against the Twins.
Hughes is coming off a quality outing against Oakland, giving up one run on six hits through seven innings. His offense didn’t repay his efforts however, so he took a no decision and they lost in extras. This will be his third time facing his former team, going 1-1 with a 5.65 ERA last year. He holds a 3.13 ERA in his last eight starts.
Tidbits:
Jacoby Ellsbury has the most at bats against Hughes, mostly from his Boston days. He is 7-22 (.318) Â with two doubles against the former Yankee.
Didi Gregorious is 3-6 with a double, a homer and an RBI off Philly.
