Phil Hughes made his second start of the Spring and was very solid in a rebound from his first start. In today’s 5-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins, Hughes pitched 3 scoreless innings striking out 1, walking 1, and allowing just 1 hit. Each of the minor league pitchers that followed Hughes gave up at least 1 run which led to the loss.
The Yankees lone run was brought in by Francisco Cervelli. The Yankees were just 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position and another run would have scored but Brett Gardner was thrown out at home on Curtis Granderson’s one-out double in the 3rd inning.
