Yankees Spring Training Game 2: A-Rod’s Ready

Philadelphia Phillies 4 — New York Yankees 7

The Yankees maintain their winning ways in Spring Training with a 7-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the home opener of George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Alex Rodriguez looks like he’s ready for the season too. After a 2 for 2 outing by Curtis Granderson in yesterday’s 8-5 win, Alex Rodriguez did one better as he went a perfect 3 for 3 with an opposite-field home run on the first pitch he saw from Phillies ace Roy Halladay. Later, Rodriguez pulled two pitches later, one for a single and one for a double deep into left field.

Freddy Garcia started today’s game and demonstrated his usual control and  “junk” as he used breaking balls for 2 innings of work in which he gave up 2 runs on 4 hits, 1 being a two-run home run to Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence.  Another pitcher worth keeping an eye on was left-handed reliever Clay Rapada, throwing a perfect inning with two strikeouts,  signed to a minor league contact and could be a second left-handed reliever in the bullpen for the Yankees.
Win – D.J. Mitchell
Loss – Joel Pineiro
