Yankees Spring Training Game 30: Late-Inning Win

New York Yankees 10 — Miami Marlins 8

Back-to-back doubles to open the 9th inning and put the Yankees ahead for the eventual 10-8 win over the Miami Marlins in their new ballpark today. Bill Hall and Eric Chavez hit doubles off of former Yankee Chad Gaudin to break the 8-8 tie. Many of the Yankees that will be seen on the Opening Day roster contributed to the 10 runs in today’s game, including Robinson Cano, Russell Martin, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, and Alex Rodriguez. Nick Swisher made his impact with a no-doubt home run to deep right field.

CC Sabathia started in what will be his last start before Opening Day and went just 4 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits including a solo home run by Gaby Sanchez. Mariano Rivera made a rare Spring Training appearance on the road and did something that was even more rare in the Spring; he gave up an earned run. Rafael Soriano also pitched an inning with an earned run surrendered. Cory Wade’s shaky Spring continues as he gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits and 2 walks in his inning of work that lost the lead.

Win – George Kontos (1-0)

Loss – Chad Gaudin (2-1)

Save – Juan Cedeno (1)
