In his last start of the Spring, Ivan Nova struggled by just going 2.2 innings. In his short outing he surrendered 5 run on 8 hits. The two options for long relief made appearances today. David Phelps pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with 1 hit and 2 strikeouts. D.J. Mitchell pitched 3 innings but he gave up the game-tying run in his outing. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte got 2 outs in today’s game.
A five-run 6th inning put the Yankees ahead at the time with a series of singles by Andruw Jones, Doug Bernier, and Chris Dickerson.
