Yankees Spring Training Game 4: Murphy impressive in loss

New York Yankees 3 — Philadelphia Phillies 4

JR Murphy hits a two-run home run in today’s 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

In the battle for starting catcher, JR Murphy is likely overlooked and will likely start in the minor leagues but he put on an impressive offensive show in today’s game. In his first at-bat in the 7th inning, he hit a two-run home run to center field. Then with the Yankees trailing in the 9th, Murphy represented the tying run and he laced a double into center field that hit the base of the wall. Ultimately, the Yankees lost but Murphy showed what he is capable of. Ichiro Suzuki was a perfect 3 for 3 today with an infield hit and a stolen base and scored on Mark Teixeira’s double in the 1st inning.

Jose Ramirez started today’s game and pitched two scoreless innings. David Robertson and Joba Chamberlain made their Spring debut and pitched scoreless innings with Chamberlain striking out 2. With the Yankees ahead by 2, minor league pitcher Zach Nuding would pitch an inning but would lose the lead. Outfielder Dominic Brown hit a monstrous home run over the batter’s eye in center field and prospect catcher Tommy Joseph hit a laser of a two-run home run into left field to put the Phillies ahead.
