Yankees walk it off on Walker’s pinch-hit blast

NEW YORK — Things were not looking good midway thru, but three home runs quickly turned a another crushing loss to the White Sox into a feel-good win for the Bombers, 5-4, at Yankee Stadium.

Tonight, Neil Walker was the hero, as he came into the game as a pinch-hitter for Ronald Torreyes in the ninth, and turned on the first pitch he saw and sent it into the stands in right field. It was a big hit that could energize this team.

To be fair, Lance Lynn pitched a pretty good game tonight, overcoming sloppy defense and going 5 2/3 innings of three run ball.

When he left the game in the sixth, Jonathan Holder was looking to end a two-out threat and keep the New York deficit at one. Unfortunately for him and his team, the righty gave up consecutive hits to Yolmer Sanchez and Nicky Delmonico that resulted in a three-run inning for the White Sox.

In the bottom half of the frame, Rookie of the Year frontrunner Miguel Andujar continued to rake as he sent a drive over the fence to cut the Chicago lead in half.

Holder then went two more innings, retiring all six of the batters he faced.

Still facing a deficit in the eighth, Giancarlo Stanton got things started with a single off of Juan Minaya.

Next, Aaron Hicks tied the ballgame with a thunderous blast to right field that sparked a rally.

After Dellin Betances pitched a clean ninth, it set the stage for Walker’s heroics in the bottom half of the frame.

This was a good win for New York as they kept pace with Boston, who walked it off against Miami. The latter’s lead remains at 6.5 games.

The Yankees go for the series victory tomorrow, with CC Sabathia on the hill facing Reynaldo Lopez.

Current Yankees Record: 84-48
