Injury update: Mason Williams and Carlos Beltran

While there are many reasons to be excited about the second half of the baseball season, two Yankees outfielders will remain off the 25 man roster. Mason Williams will remain on the 60 Day DL due to shoulder inflammation. While he was originally placed on the 15 Day DL, his shoulder never progressed as hoped, and the prospect will likely be out until September at least. In short, don’t expect to see Williams for a while. The best case scenario is he comes back healthy for a playoff chase, and provides a spark plug in the outfield. Unfortunately, surgery is still a possibility, which would sideline Williams until next season.

Carlos Beltran, who injured his left oblique on July 3rd, has been playing in rehab assignments for Single-A Tampa, and has played very well. However, Beltran is not expected to return this weekend against the Mariners, contrary to what was originally hoped.Β It’s great to see Beltran playing well in his rehab assignments, so he should be back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Regardless of both players’ current injury situations, there is still a great chance the Yankees make a great run towards the postseason and ultimately win the division.
