Jacoby Ellsbury to be activated Wednesday

Jacoby Ellsbury is in the final stages of his rehab assignment and will be activated Wednesday as the Yankees take on Athletics, according to Yankees GM Brian Cashman. The speedy outfielder was scratched from Monday’s lineup with Single-A Tampa due to wet field conditions but did participate in simulated game activities Monday.

The 31-year-old has been out since May 20th with a sprained knee suffered in an at-bat vs. the Washington Nationals. The lefty is hitting .324 in 37 games this season while swiping 14 bases. His on-base percentage of .412 helped set the tone for the Yankees offense at the top of the order.

Before Ellsbury was injured, he and Brett Gardner were forming a formidable tandem at the top of the lineup to begin ball games. With Gardner swinging the bat well, the two speedy outfielders may be able to get something going again for the Yankees as the table setters in the lineup. This news is welcoming to the team as the nine-year pro will have an opportunity to find his swing before the All-Star break and get in a groove once games get back underway after the Midseason Classic.
