Top catching prospect Luis Torrens is finally healthy after recovering from shoulder surgery last year, and will enter Spring Training ready to go, according to George King of Baseball America (subscription needed).

The 19-year-old underwent surgery on his right labrum last March, and was sidelined up until September/October when he resumed baseball activities. Now the training wheels are off, and Torrens is ready to re-establish himself in the Yankees’ system.Β β€œHe is healthy and ready, full bore, for spring training,” Brian Cashman said.

Torrens’ played in just nine games with Low-A Charleston to begin 2014 before experiencing shoulder discomfort. He returned with the Staten Island Yankees and hitΒ .270/.327/.405 before ultimately going under the knife. For his MiLB career, Torrens has slashed .249/.338/.347 with four homers and 36 RBI in 109 total games. Keep in mind he was just 17 during Rookie-Ball.

The Yankees signed Torrens for $1.3M out of Venezuela in July of 2012, and converted him from the infield to behind the plate. He turned heads and garnered high praise, so his injury was a roadblock in his development. When he’s healthy, Torrens is one of the best prospects in the entire farm system.

The Yankees hope he can get on track this spring.
