AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

Dellin Betances started the game for the Yankees, but once again showed a lack of control, throwing just 59 of 103 pitches (57%) for strikes, and included a pair of wild pitches. He would last just 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks. Fortunately, the Yankees were able to get things going despite a lackluster performance by Betances. Down 4-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre strung together four runs to make the game 5-4, and they would hold on from that point to win. They had some help in that inning, as Syracuse’s Ryan Perry threw a pair of wild pitches with runners on base, including one that allowed Ramiro Pena to score. Other than Pena’s triple that brought home two runners, the Yankees did not have an extra base hit all night, but it ultimately didn’t matter in the 5-4 win over the Chiefs.

AA: Trenton Thunder

Trenton took the Harrisburg Senators to ten innings, but walks would hurt them there as they fell 4-3. Luke Murton hit his 9th home run of the season for the Thunder, while Abe Almonte had a good day at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 from the leadoff spot. Shaeffer Hall turned in a quality start for the Thunder, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings of work. Kelvin Perez then took over, throwing two more perfect innings for Trenton. His ERA on the season now stands at 0.91, and though he didn’t make my list of five likely promotions, he’ll probably be in Scranton sooner rather than later. Michael Dubee was the pitcher of record for Scranton though, as he was doomed by giving up a lead-off double in the 10th. Following a pair of walks, an RBI single ended it, with Harrisburg on top.

High-A: Tampa Yankees

Tampa is currently on their All-Star Break.

Class-A: Charleston RiverDogs

Charleston had an offensive explosion on Friday, netting five runs on thirteen hits on their way to victory over Greensboro. Four of those hits came off the bat of Angelo Gumbs, who was DHing yesterday. Gumbs went 4-for-5, with an RBI and a run scored. Gary Sanchez hit his 11th home run of the season during his 2-for-4 day from the cleanup spot, while Mason Williams went 2-for-5 with his team-leading 17th steal. On the mound, Evan Rutckyj pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits while striking out four. The performance earned him the win, moving his record to 3-2 for Charleston this year.
