Minors Wrap-Up: Mitchell Roughed Up in Charleston

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees

Scranton was slated to play two today, but wasn’t able to get the second game in due to rain. For the first game, they lost to Norfolk 4-3 in walk-off fashion in the 7th inning (yes, you read that right — in the minors, they play seven innings for doubleheaders). Ramon Ortiz would earn a quality start after allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings, but left with the game tied at three. From there, Manny Delcarmen entered and it got ugly fast. He struck out the leadoff batter, but then allowed a walk and back-to-back singles, allowing Norfolk to squeeze this one out. Scranton managed eleven baserunners on the day, but wasn’t able to string together enough offense to get the job done – unless you count Ronnier Mustelier, who always seems to find a way to get his name into the RBI column.

AA: Trenton Thunder

Trenton’s game against New Hampshire was suspended in the 8th inning with the score tied at 2. I believe the plan is to finish tomorrow before the scheduled 7:05 game.

High-A: Tampa Yankees

Tampa’s game was rained out. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs

I would be willing to bet Bryan Mitchell wishes the RiverDogs were rained out. Instead, they lost 13-3 as Mitchell had his worst start of the season, lasting just one inning for Charleston. Mitchell allowed five runs on three hits and four walks as he was struggling mightily to find the plate. The damage was done from there, as all five Charleston pitchers allowed a run. Offensively, only Gary Sanchez seemed to be able to get the bat going. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and managed to have his average creep up just over the .300 mark for the season.
