Akron 4, Trenton 2

Mikey O’Brien took the hill in Waterfront Park for the first time tonight, and was handed his first loss as a member of the Trenton Thunder. In 5.1 innings tonight, O’Brien allowed four runs on seven hits while walking two. O’Brien also struck out two batters. After he left, Ryan Pope entered and shut down Akron, but the damage had already been done. Cody Johnson hit his league leading 11th home run this evening, with a fourth inning shot over the right-center field wall. While every Thunder starter but Jose Gil had a hit on the evening, only Kevin Mahoney managed two. He was 2-for-3 on the evening, and also drove in Trenton’s other run.

Palm Beach 5, Tampa 4

Tonight’s Tampa outfield of Rob Segedin, Eduardo Sosa, and Ramon Flores combined to go 8-for-14 on the evening, but it wasn’t enough to push the Yankees to victory over Palm Beach. Included in that group, Segedin extended his hitting streak to eleven games with a 3-for-5 night that included an RBI. Kramer Sneed started on the mound for Tampa, but lasted just three innings while allowing four earned runs on six hits. Sneed did strike out four, but it wasn’t enough to prevent him from taking the loss and moving to 0-4 on the season. After Sneed, the bullpen allowed just one hit the rest of the way, but the hole was too deep for the Yankees to dig out of.

Savannah 6, Charleston 3

Scottie Allen definitely didn’t have his best performance of the year tonight. In just four innings of work, Allen allowed six runs on nine hits to dig the RiverDogs deep into a hole before hie left. Charleston wasn’t able to do much offensively tonight though. They mustered three runs on seven hits, with not one player mustering a multi-hit game or an extra base hit on the night. Ben Gamel was the most help on offense at just 1-for-4 with  a pair of runs batted in. The team as a whole left six runners on base, and combined to go 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
