Minors Wrap-Up: Tampa Shut Out Against Daytona

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees

Ramon Ortiz threw six shutout innings en route to his fifth win of the season as the Yankees defeated Louisville 3-1. Ortiz allowed just four hits on the night and struck out three hitters. Juan Cedeno would also record the last four outs for his third save of the season. Jack Cust hit his team-leading 13th home run of the season with an 8th inning shot off Scott Carroll. With Russell Branyan hitting a fourth inning double, he expanded his hitting streak to six games.

High-A: Tampa Yankees

Less than twelve hours after the Yankees lost out to the Cubs in the bidding for Jorge Soler, the team’s High-A affiliates met, and the Cubs came out on top 5-0. Worse yet, the Yankees managed to scrap out just two hits, and only had three at-bats the entire night with runners in scoring position. Nik Turley started for Tampa, and it was an ugly performance from the former 50th round pick. Turley lasted just two innings, allowing four runs on five hits. As for the two hits, those were managed by leadoff man Ramon Flores and cleanup hitter Neil Medchill. Rob Segedin, who had not played since June 4th, went 0-for-3 with a walk.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs

Tonight’s game was postponed due to rain. Charleston and Savannah will play a doubleheader tomorrow.
