Minors Wrap-Up: Tracy Torched in Tampa

Matt Tracy got torched for seven runs on Friday.

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Russell Branyan and Jack Cust drove in three runs a piece as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre beat Gwinnett 11-4 on Friday night. Each contributed a home run, Cust’s team-leading 18th blast, while Branyan hit his 9th of the season. Everyone in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre line-up got a hit except for the team’s 9th hitter, Ramiro Pena. Gustavo Molina pitched in offensively, driving in two runs. On the mound, Nelson Figueroa tossed five solid innings as he picked up his fifth win of the season. Figueroa allowed just two runs on three hits in the outing.

AA: Trenton Thunder
Trenton fell to New Britain 8-4 on Friday night as Mikey O’Brien struggled on the mound. The right-hander had his worst outing since being promoted to Double-A Trenton in mid-May. In just four innings of work, O’Brien allowed eight runs (six earned) on eleven hits as he was charged with his second loss of the year. David Adams and Addison Maruszak both homered for Trenton, and with a pair of RBI each, were responsible for all of the Thunder’s runs. Jose Pirela scored a run as he was the only other member of the Thunder to get a hit, with a double in the first inning.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Matt Tracy’s breakout season hit a speed bump on Friday, as he failed to make it out of the fifth inning against Brevard County. He was torched for seven runs (six earned) on six hits and four walks in 4.2 innings as he took his second loss of the season. Slade Heathcott did his best from the third spot in the order to get the line-up going, but a double and a home run weren’t enough for Tampa. Neil Medchill, Jose Mojica, and Jose Toussen also contributed multi-hit games for the Yankees.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs
Charleston fell to Greenville last night 10-2 as Bryan Mitchell was hit hard in four innings of work. Mitchell allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out three. After he left, the bullpen would go on to give up another six runs. Most notably on the bullpen collapse was Phil Wetherell, who allowed four runs in just one inning of work. No one managed more than one hit on the day for the RiverDogs. Dante Bichette, Jr., Casey Stevenson, and Ali Castillo were the only three Charleston hitters to manage an extra base hit.
