AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre got massacred on Thursday, losing to the Syracuse Chiefs by a score of 10-0. Adam Warren didn’t look very good in five innings of work, allowing ten baserunners and four runs. Unfortunately for the Yankees, Manny Delcarmen looked even worse. In just two-thirds of an inning, Delcarmen allowed five runs, set up after Francisco Cervelli allowed a passed ball on a strikeout and the runner reached first base. Offensively, only Ronnier Mustelier and Colin Curtis seemed to be able to do anything. Mustelier went 3-for-4 on the night, while Curtis went 2-for-4.
AA: Trenton Thunder
Trenton took a 6-1 lead into the 9th inning last night, at which point everything fell apart. Despite a solid performance by Adam Miller, who threw five innings of one-run ball, the bullpen fell apart in the 9th inning, as Ryan Flannery, Lee Hyde, and Preston Claiborne combined to give up six runs and allow Altoona to walk away with a victory. Both Zoilo Almonte (4) and Cody Johnson (16) homered on the evening. Jose Pirela had a big night offensively as well, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
High-A: Tampa Yankees
Rob Segedin’s 3-for-4 performance with a pair of runs scored wasn’t enough to lift Tampa on Thursday, as they fell to the Clearwater Threshers 10-7. Ramon Flores, Neil Medchill, and Hector Rabago all pitched in with multi-hit games, but there just wasn’t enough pitching to preserve a win for the Yankees. Shane Greene actually had a good start, and left with the score tied at three after five innings. However, Rigoberto Arrebato entered in the sixth and things immediately went south. Arrebato gave up five runs, all earned, on three hits and three walks – all while recording just one out. Coupled with Melvin Mercedes giving up two runs in his two innings pitched, and the offense just couldn’t do enough to overcome the hole they were put in.
Class-A: Charleston RiverDogs
William Oliver pitched a great game for Charleston last night, but it just wasn’t enough to beat Greensboro, who came out on top 4-3. Fred Lewis was also lights out in relief, tossing two perfect innings while striking out four batters. Mason Williams (2-for-4) and Angelo Gumbs (3-for-3) led the offense with multi-hit games. Cito Culver also recorded his 13th steal of the season after going 1-for-4.
