Pineda to start Tuesday in Trenton

Michael Pineda will venture outside of Florida for the first time in his rehab process, starting tonight for the Trenton Thunder against Eerie.

At the beginning of the 30-day rehab process, GM Brian Cashman said the 24-year-old righty would need about 5-6 starts before he’s deemed ready to return to the big leagues; tonight will be Pineda’s fourth. Cashman may even want to get a little closer look for himself at his investment, as he said he was leaning towards taking the short trip to Trenton for the game.

The Yankees will soon be faced with the decision on whether or not to bring Pineda up to move him into the rotation or send him to Triple-A for more refinement. His use in the Bronx this year will be based upon need. If everyone in the rotation is pitching up to par, the organization would probably stash Pineda in the minors. Regardless, he seems to be healthy and throwing well. It’s a good problem to have if you’re the Yankees.
