Luis Severino is now one step closer to the big leagues after his well earned promotion to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Severino, 21, skyrocketed through the Yankees’ system last year, pitching at A ball with Charleston, high-A ball with Tampa, and Double-A Trenton to finish the year. Before this season, he was ranked as the 35th best prospect in all of baseball according to Baseball America, and the number one pitching prospect in the Yankees system.

Severino was 2-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 38 IP with 48 strikeouts this year for the Thunder before getting the call up. In his most recent start on May 26, Severino went five innings while giving up two runs on three hits and striking out nine.

Many scouts believe that Severino is major league ready and could help the big league club as soon as this season. Whether it’s out of the pen or in the rotation, it’s clear that Severino is on the fast track to the Show. We could be seeing him in the Bronx in the very near future.
