Mason Williams, thought by many to be the top prospect in the Yankees’ farm system, had many excited by his promotion to High-A Tampa. Unfortunately for Williams and the Yankees, that promotion lasted all of 22 games before Williams landed on the disabled list with a shoulder injury on July 29th.

As it turns out, the injury was quite serious, and Williams will require surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder. Williams, 20, is hoping to be back on the field for the start of spring training. Previously, I had Williams ranked as the second best prospect in the Yankees system in our Memorial Day rankings.

The center fielder had hit to the tune of a .277/.302/.422 line with High-A Tampa this season. Before his promotion, Williams had been named as a South Atlantic League All-Star while playing for the Charleston RiverDogs.
