The New York Yankees announced today that they have acquire pitcher Tyler Olson and infielder Ronald Torreyes from the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Rob Segedin and either a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The left-hander Olson has pitched to a 3.86 earned run average through his minor league career. He made his big league debut last season with the Seattle Mariners. Olson pitched 13 1/3 innings out of the bullpen giving up eight earned runs. Torreyes, a 23-year-old infielder, played in eight games for the Dodgers in 2015. He had two hits in six at-bats. He hit .261 between Triple-A and Double-A last season.
Torreyes and Olson add much needed minor league depth for the Yankees. Torreyes is capable of playing second base, shortstop and third base while Olson provides the Yankees with another left-handed option in the minors. The two players were recently designated for assignment by Los Angeles.
Segedin is the piece going to the Dodgers. The 27-year old hit .287/.360/.426 with seven home runs in 284 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A this past season. The New Jersey native saw most of his time at third base and DH. He has battled injuries and struggled defensively throughout his minor league career.
Since both Olson and Torreyes were on the Dodgers 40-man roster, they will count towards the Yankees roster, which means that New York’s 40-man roster is now full. They will need to trade players off the 40-man in order to add to it.
