A-Rod passes Gehrig on RBI list

No other player in American League history has amassed more RBI than Alex Rodriguez.

A-Rod’s three-run homer off Chris Young in the third inning of Wednesday’s game moved him past Lou Gehrig and into sole possession of third place on the all-time RBI list with 1,995. Only Barry Bonds (1,996) and Hank Aaron (2,297) stand in front of him, who of course spent their entire careers in the National League.

Rodriguez recently passed Babe Ruth, who has 1,992 career RBI. That number is misleading, however, because the RBI was not recognized as a statistic by Elias (official statistician of MLB) until 1920 after Ruth had already played six seasons.

A-Rod’s homer was his 11th on the year, and the 665th of his career. He’s also now just 19 hits away from 3,000. With his current pace, A-Rod is scheduled to reach 3K sometime around mid-June. He’d join Derek Jeter as the only players to reach that milestone in a Yankee uniform.
