A-Rod to start rehab assignment soon

Here comes Alex Rodriguez.

The embattled Yankee star is set to begin a rehab assignment after his doctors cleared him to return to game action starting as early as July 1, according to the Daily News. The third-baseman has been participating in simulated games since Friday and reported no problems with his surgically repaired hip.

Although GM Brian Cashman doesn’t have an exact date, he said “It sounds like itโ€™s on schedule. Heโ€™s been running, throwing, fielding, and I know itโ€™s approaching. Itโ€™s coming.” Usually, position players need about 50-75 at-bats or 20 games. Should A-Rod start playing next week, that would put him on track to come back just after the All-Star break in mid-July. He would likely play with Class-A Tampa and then work his way up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

A-Rod has been at the center of an ongoing investigation into the Miami “anti-aging” clinic. MLB investigators will look to suspend those involved, putting Rodriguez’s future in question. However, it could be some time before the whole issue is resolved.

Regardless, A-Rod is on the fast track towards the Bronx.
