Aaron Judge promoted to Triple-A

As Aaron Judge and his bat continue to heat up, the power-hitting right fielder will be promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Judge, who was drafted in the first round by the Yankees at 32nd overall in the 2013 draft out of Fresno State, has dominated Double-A as a part of the Trenton Thunder. His batting line has been impressive as it stands at .284/.350/.516 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI through 63 games on the year. He is in the discussion as the Yankees top prospect as he continues to jump up the prospect board.

While the Yankees do have a plethora of outfielders at the major league level, injuries have forced the team to go to the farm system to replace players who have landed on the DL. First it was Jacoby Ellsbury placed on the DL with a knee injury, with Ramon Flores replacing him. Slade Heathcott was then called up as Flores was sent back down to the minors. Heathcott played well and garnered attention, but was also placed on the DL with a hamstring injury. Mason Williams got his opportunity to shine and was hitting at a .286 clip before being place on the disabled list with a shoulder injury.

The outfield positions seem to be a revolving door of injuries and it has been one major league ready player after the next. This gives the Yankees options in the outfield as they move forward. It is a positive sign that the team has major league ready outfielders at the ready incase any injuries occur down the road.

The Yankees are taking notice of Judge and his power numbers. The 23 year old Judge is best known for his power, but his average has been climbing throughout the season. The 6’7″ right fielder has an imposing stature and is still improving his power numbers.

The move to promote Judge will give him an opportunity to show the Yankees front office he is ready for the big leagues, or he is getting closer as the season wears on. Whether another injury occurs, or he continues to stroke the ball well, Judge is putting himself in a position to continue climbing his way to the majors.
