Alex Rodriguez has made his case for the American League Comeback Player of the Year as he along with Prince Fielder and Kendrys Morales have been named finalists for the award.
Players who are nominated for the award have “re-emerged on the baseball field during a given season.” The award has been in existence since 2005.
A year after he was suspended by MLB for the entire 2014 year, the 40-year-old Rodriguez has taken over as the Yankees full-time designated hitter this season, and has impressed the entire league. The power-hitting DH has smacked 33 homeruns this year, which is his highest total since the 2008 season, along with driving in 86 runs. He now has 687 homeruns during his 21 years in the big leagues.
Arod has not only been rock solid for the bombers this year, he has come up clutch several times this year. Out of the 33 balls he has hit out of the park, 13 have been go-ahead long shots.
The most recent Yankees player to win this award was Mariano Rivera, who was given the award after returning in the 2013 season from a torn knee ligament in 2012. The historic closer finished the 2013 year with 44 saves.
The winner will be announced Monday, November 9th.
