According to Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York, Alex Rodriguez will retire when his contract expires at the end of the 2017 season.
This really comes as no surprise. A-Rod will be 42 by then, and most baseball players are long gone by that age. However, this is the first time A-Rod has talked about his future and his own baseball mortality.
The three-time MVP enters his 22nd year in the big leagues needing just 13 homers to reach the 700 plateau. He turned back the clock last season by hitting .250/.356/.486 with 33 homers and 86 RBI in 151 games.
A-Rod ranks in the top 10 in most categories all-time, including homers (687, fourth), RBI (2055, fourth) and runs scored (2002, eighth). No matter your views on him, he’s considered one of the greatest players in the history of the game.
