Aroldis Chapman en route to New York

While the Yankees are enjoying a modest win streak after taking the first two games of a weekend series against the Red Sox, Aroldis Chapman is currently on his way to New York.

Although he won’t be an active member of the Yankees until Monday when the Royals come into town, Chapman and his family boarded a plane in Tampa Saturday night bound for NYC. Chapman is scheduled to speak with reporters on Sunday at 4 pm ET.

Chapman made his final tuneup this past week in extended spring games, with his fastball reaching upwards of 99 mph. Joe Girardi reiterated Saturday that the plan is for Chapman to slot into the closer’s role, which was admirably held by Andrew Miller.

On the surface, Dellin Betances gets the seventh inning and Miller gets the eighth. However, Girardi may only use two of the three guys on any given night, in essence always allowing someone to rest. With the Yankees struggling to score runs early on in the season and starters giving inconsistent length, the addition of Chapman will help shorten games.

Get ready to feast your eyes on perhaps the greatest bullpen ever assembled.
