Baby Bombers off and running in Tampa

It was opening day in the Grapefruit League on Friday afternoon, and Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius got Spring Training started with a bang, blasting the first pitch he saw over the right field fence.

It was a sign of things to come for the Yanks, as Aaron Judge followed suit in his second at-bat, crushing a fastball off of the scoreboard in left-center field. Estimated at 449 feet, the blast just barely missed clearing the scoreboard entirely.

Judge’s homerun was certainly the highlight of the game, but the rest of the “Baby Bombers” were equally impressive at the plate. Top propects Gleyber Torres and Clint Frazier both drove in runs – Torres on a SAC Fly and Frazier lacing a triple to the opposite field plating two. Miguel Andujar and Keith Law’s Yankees Sleeper Prospect, Dustin Fowler both knocked triples and brought in runs.

Courtesy of MLB Pipeline, we see a condensed view of just how impressive the Baby Bombers were at the plate in Friday’s contest.

All 5 of these prospects will be in the starting lineup for Saturday’s matchup against the Phillies in Clearwater, Fla. Fellow top prospects Jorge Mateo and Tyler Wade are also set to see time this afternoon. Mateo is slotted in as the backup second basemen with Wade slotted to see time in centerfield. Right hander Adam Warren will get the start for the Yankees.
