Carlos Beltran to decide on retirement after ’16

Carlos Beltran will enter the final year of a three-year deal with the Yankees in 2016, and will decide on his future at the conclusion of the season, according to Brian Heyman.

Beltran, who turns 39 in April, is coming off a year in which he hit .276/337/.471 with 19 homers and 67 RBI in 133 games. He was one of the more consistent hitters for Joe Girardi throughout the season, and rebounded nicely after an injury riddled first season with the Yankees back in 2014.

Beltran has yet to win a ring in his career, but came close in 2013 with the St. Louis Cardinals. One of the best postseason hitters of all-time, the Yankees signed him with the hopes he’d carry them to a World Championship. In 52 career postseason games, Beltran owns a line of .332/.441/.674 with 16 homers and 40 RBI. His eight home runs in the 2004 postseason is tied for first all-time.

Beltran began his career in Kansas City before being traded to Houston. He signed a big free-agent deal with the Mets, was then traded to San Francisco, and then signed a two-year deal with the Cardinals before inking his three-year pact with the Bronx Bombers. HisΒ career line currently stands at .280/.355/.490 with 392 homers and 1443 RBI in 2306 games over 18 years, with 10 all-star appearances.
