Brett Gardner has been named American Leauge Player of the Week for the week of June 22nd-28th. This marks the third time in his career he has won Player of the Week, his last coming on the week of August 3rd, 2014. The speedy lefty has been the table setter in the Yankees lineup since Jacoby Ellsbury injured his knee, and he has not disappointed at the plate.

Gardner’s numbers for the week are eye-popping including a .500 batting average (13-26), nine runs scored, two homeruns, four doubles, and six RBI in six games. During his award winning week, the eight-year pro had a stretch of six hits in six at-bats. With his nine runs this week, the speedy outfielder is now tied for the American Leauge lead in runs scored with Josh Donaldson at 58, and tied for second with 15 stolen bases. He is tied for fifth in the American League with 19 doubles.
Gardner, 31, has a batting line of .300/.373/.493 in 70 games played this season. He set a career-high in homeruns a season ago with 17, and RBI with 58. He is on pace to break both of those career highs as this season he has already launched nine homeruns and has drove in 39 runs. Before his hot hitting streak, Gardy was hitting a respectable .279 but has pushed his average up to .300 since the streak began on June 22nd.
If Gardner keeps this torrid pace up, or anywhere near it, he could be closing in on his first All-Star game appearance.
