Brian McCann wins sixth career sliver slugger award

Brian McCann has been nothing but consistent throughout his career, and now he can add a sixth Sliver Slugger award to his name. The award was announced Thursday night by Major League Baseball and the Yankee catcher was the beneficiary of the American League Silver Slugger award for catchers. The 11 year pro has a career batting average of .268 while piling up 225 career homeruns, 49 of which have come with the Yankees in the past two seasons.

McCann played the first nine years of his career as a member of the Braves, winning five silver slugger awards while in Atlanta. He was the first Braves player to ever win five silver slugger awards.

The 31-year-old catcher has been a consistent backstop in the MLB, but has provided the offensive punch the Yankees needed when they signed him before the 2014 season. The former second round pick has drove in 169 runs in his two seasons with the Yankees, and has three years and $51 million left on his current deal with the Yankees.
