Bronx Bombers home run alert

Keeping tabs on every home run for the New York Yankees this season. Soon enough, the New York tabloids will start printing those “too many home runs” articles. Following Monday’s 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, the Bronx Bombers tied the O’s atop the home run lead, hitting 12 home runs on the season. Their three round trippers at Camden Yards, went a long way in achieving the total.

Once upon a time in 1996, Tino Martinez drilled a 15th inning grand slam off Jimmy Myers, at Baltimore and the Yanks took flight and full charge of the AL East. Maybe, just maybe, Stephen Drew’s grand slam provides a similar boost in 2015.

Drew’s second consecutive home run in as many contests, gave the Yanks a 6-4 advantage in the top frame of the seventh inning. The pinch hit grand slam off Tommy Hunter, was Drew’s 99th career homer and the fifth of his Yankee tenure.

In the fourth, Mark Teixeira launched his third tater of the season, off Wei-Yin Chen, knotting the game at two. Teixeira’s 366th career homer was also his 163rd as a Yankee, placing him two behind Moose Skowron.

Igniting the Yanks offense was Chris Young. Young’s second inning home run off Chen, put New York out front, 1-0. It was Young’s second of the season, fifth as a Yankee and the 157th of his career.
