Captain Comeback

For the third time this year, Derek Jeter will return from the disabled list with the hopes of finally being able to stay on the field for more than a week. The 39-year-old shortstop is expected to be activated in time for tonight’s game with the Toronto Blue Jays.

It’s been a so-called “nightmare” season for Jeter, who is on track to play in the fewest amount of games in his illustrious 18 year career. The guy has stayed unbelievably healthy over the years, but now finally appears to be showing signs of his age. After all, there aren’t many everyday shortstops his age over the history of baseball.

Jeter beat out an infield hit in his first game of the season. He then connected on a home run after he came off the DL for the second time. Obviously, he’ll likely do something dramatic tonight – it’s just what he expect from him. For the Yankees and their fans, they hope tonight is the last comeback for Jeter this season. His presence will lengthen an already formidable lineup and his leadership in the clubhouse will be reassuring to a team looking to go on a run.

No corresponding roster move has been announced yet.
