Capuano designated for assignment

After giving up five runs while recording only two outs in the first inning last night, Chris Capuano has been designated for assignment. He was 0-4 with a 6.97 ERA this year in 16 games (four starts).

RHP Caleb Cotham will be called up from Scranton to take Capuano’s spot on the roster. Cotham went 1-0 with a 1.37 ERA with 22 Ks in 19.2 IP with the Railriders.

Capuano, 36,Β was signed after getting released by the Rockies in July of 2014.Β He went 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA last year for New York, which translated into a one year, $5M deal for 2015. Capuano was competing for the fifth rotation spot coming into the season, but he injured his quad in March and missed almost three months.

The consensus was that Diego Moreno would be the pitcher sent down since he went 5.1 hitless innings in relief last night and wouldn’t be available for a few days. This clearly shows the impression Moreno made on the organization last night, as he’s earned a spot on the roster.
