Chapman to make spring debut Thursday

Thursday will mark the first time Aroldis Chapman puts on a Yankees uniform for game action. The 28-year-old will make his Yankees and spring debut Thursday at George M. Steinbrenner Field against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Chapman will appear in his first game since accepting the agreement between Major League Baseball and the MLB Player Association’s of a 30-game suspension for his domestic violence incident. There were no charges filed on Chapman and he says he did not hurt his girlfriend. He will not appeal his suspension.

In 2015 with the Cincinnati Reds, Chapman had 33 saves to go along with his 1.63 earned run average. He also led relievers with 116 strikeouts. The team acquired Chapman with hopes of forming a super bullpen with him, Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances. He is eligible to return on May 9 against Kansas City.

The Yankees will have a split squad double-header Thursday. Chapman will stay in Tampa for the home game. The home game will be televised on the YES Network with Nathan Eovaldi getting the start.
