Chapman perfect in first extended spring game

While the Yankees continue to battle the Blue Jays north of the border, Aroldis Chapman is working out down in Tampa and serving his 30-game suspension for violating the league’s domestic violence policy.

In an effort to prepare for his return, which is tentatively scheduled for May 9, Chapman appeared in his first extended spring training game early Wednesday morning according to the Associated Press. He induced a broken-bat ground ball from Yankees’ prospect Carlos Vidal, and then struck out Estevan Florial and Jared Mitchell. Chapman needed just 15 pitches, and was clocked at 98 mph.

On Tuesday night we saw the Yankees’ bullpen in full effect, as they turned in four scoreless innings en route to a 3-2 win over Toronto. It will only get better when Chapman arrives some time in the early part of May, and that’s scary to think about.
