Chase Headley scratched from tonight’s lineup against Baltimore

Update – July 22, 2016: 11:00am

Chase Headley returned to the Yankees on Thursday entering as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of the Yankees’ 4-1 to the Orioles.  In his one at-bat, he grounded out to second base.

Headley was excused and scratched from the lineup for personal reasons, which turned out being a health scare with his four-year-old son Cole, who recently had an operation.

Following the game, Headley briefly discussed the situation.

“Over the All-Star break my oldest son had a small operation and has been dealing with some complications the last few days,” he said.  “It got pretty serious yesterday and we had to take him to the hospital.  He had to have another procedure, but he’s doing a lot better.”

Headley stated he doesn’t “remember a whole lot of days that were worse” than what he and his family went through Wednesday.  Thankfully, his son has received the care he needed and “is doing a lot better.”

Yankees manager Joe Girardi stated he believes that Headley will be available to start again in their weekend series against the San Francisco Giants.

Original post:

It was announced late Wednesday afternoon that New York Yankees’ third baseman Chase Headley was scratched from tonight’s lineup against the Orioles.  He was excused by the team for personal reasons.

Replacing him tonight at third will be Ronald Torreyes who has appeared in 33 games this season for the Yankees.  He is hitting just .219 with five RBI and six walks in 71 plate appearances.  Torreyes will bat ninth, moving Aaron Hicks up to the eight spot.

At this time, there is nothing to report as to why he was excused from tonight’s game.  Stay tuned for updates.
